Or lack thereof. Recently I’ve been writing again, which is great! I’d written 30 pages (of a proposed 120) of Cloverfield at Sea (working title, obviously) when I suddenly hit a minor impasse of work and other stuff. A similar thing happened with Drawing Dead, though I was less serious about that one for sure.

Then yesterday I outlined a few stories that I have that are ripe for cinematic translation, obviously the current one and Sole Trader, as well as The Demons Within, The Dream Weavers, and Pure Luck.

And for some inexplicable reason, today I pumped out (from memory) 17 pages of The Demons Within, improving upon my 6 year old box novel without even cracking the seal on my dusty hard-copy or opening the electronic version of the novel. It really just came to me and BOOM, suddenly I’m writing all genres, all over the place and it’s incredibly fluid for me.

I just hope it continues.

I’m going to brush up the first ten pages of Cloverfield at Sea tonight and then distribute it to the people who offered their advice/editing.

Act 1: Done

Nearly, but pumping it out at the moment, and very happy with it.

In terms of what Syd Field refers to as the standardised structure of a screenplay in his book (that I bought on the weekend), I just rounded off 30 pages of screenplay which puts me squarely in the closure phase of Act 1, and coincidentally or not, I am also nearing on what I identified as Plot point 1 (using his standard) which sets the main thrust of the story in motion as well as providing a much-needed adrenaline boost with some deep sea thrills.

If you’re not already aware, given my previous post, I’m writing my version of Cloverfield. Where a deep sea monster awakens and in a radical twist decides to do all manners of crazy shit at sea, y’know, instead of on land in a major metropolis…

I’ll be providing more snips of what is being produced in the near future, if you’re interested, so keep your eyes peeled for a link.

Tonight I’m attending an info seminar by these guys which I’m not terribly confident will actually yield anything (due to both Qld being Qld - no offence, I love this place but it doesn’t exactly breed overachievers - and the fact that I’m not an Arts student or ever likely to be) but I’m going along happily to speculate anyway. I will report back any salient findings.

Well, that was predictably lame…

I’m writing again. My Facebook status was no lie…

Look! PROOF!! <- link now defunct (10.07.08)

The usual disclaimer follows that this is a rough early draft, written in an hour, don’t be too hard on me.

Comments on a postcard.

Edit: I’ve came back and revised it once or twice since then with some additions.
